Sorry, but I can't write much right now. It's late and I am very tired. I spent the day meeting with people from a Facing History and Ourselves group here called Shikaya which works to support teachers in their transition to a more inclusive curriculum after the fall of apartheid. That doesn't just mean "fixing" the history books, but really facing the inherent problems, including those of being in the same room together. I will write more about it later, but it's really interesting. It was great to meet them. With any luck, I'll have a chance to meet Denis Goldberg in the coming days (he was an ANC activist and lawyer who was sentenced with Mandela at Rivonia). Fingers crossed. I also went to see a coloured neighborhood in Cape Town called the Bo-Kaap. It's like what District Six was before it was demolished. Neat place. Didn't spend too much time there because I managed to get lost in its alley-ways and realized it wasn't the safest place to be at that moment.
Good news. Steve is going to be all set tomorrow afternoon, looking forward to it. I am headed to Robben Island in the am and then will see him shortly afterwards.
Mom, here are some pics of Table Mountain. This first one is from just down my street. It's a shot I took as the sun was setting and a big phat cloud was sitting up there making the big guy nice and dramatic. Check out the shadow across a cloud. Neat huh?
Here it is over a mosque in District Six
Here it is over the only remaining structure in the western section of District Six - a methodist church that was once a meeting place for the resistance.
